Advanced Technology at VOSS

At Virginia Oral Surgery Specialists, we use the most advanced technology and modern techniques to provide our patients with the best possible care. This includes 3D imaging, intraoral camera, and sterilization and filtration systems. We also use advanced sedation techniques to help our patients relax and feel comfortable during their procedure.

3D CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography) Scans

We use the latest dental technology at Virginia Oral Surgery Specialists, including 3D CBCT scans. This scan provides more accurate images of the mouth, teeth, jaw bone density, soft tissues, and nerves in the craniofacial region in one scan. This helps us for more accurate diagnoses and to treat dental and oral surgery conditions. Traditional film and x-ray methods do not provide the level of detail or accuracy that CBCT does.

This scan is only used for certain surgical cases because it does transmit more radiation than other digital x-rays; however, the benefits of this scan outweigh the risks.

CBCT is commonly used in more complex cases that involve:

  • Planning the placement of dental implants
  • Surgical planning for impacted teeth such as wisdom teeth
  • Reconstruction surgery of jaw
  • Diagnosis of TMJ disorders

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) & Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF)

Healing is an individual process, yet safe, natural procedures can accelerate hard- and soft tissue rejuvenation for each patient. At VOSS, with PRP and PRF, recovery and healing are faster, as is tissue regeneration. A small amount of the patient’s blood is collected with an IV just before treatment and processed in a centrifuge, making a concentrated “jelly-like” plug or membrane used during treatment. The patient’s blood platelets are a therapeutic tool for tissue repair during the wound healing process.

Guided Surgery for Dental Implants

At VOSS, we use cutting-edge technology to improve our practice to minimize surprises. Only with careful preparation and accuracy can excellent results be achieved. For implant placement accuracy, a 3D printed surgical guide is used so that our surgeon performs optimal clinical results with minimally invasive incisions. This digital impression system provides accuracy for the surgeon and brings aesthetically pleasing results to our patients so they can love their smiles again. This process is done in conjunction with a lab using highly accurate state-of-the-art three-shape implant planning software. This collaborative treatment planning approach provides an added layer of certainty in dental implant placement.

State of the Art Air Filtration System

Since it is a brand new office, the HEPA air filtration system effectively provides purified air with a reduced risk of pathogens like viruses and bacteria.

Advanced Sterilization Technology

The Lexa sterilizer is a device that promotes patient safety, lowers infection risk, and adheres to best practices in the sterilization of medical devices. Lexa utilizes steam-condensing vacuum technology and closed-door vacuum drying to make sterile, bone-dry payloads. Its single-use water system ensures that water is never reused, reducing maintenance requirements.

Exparel -Non-opioid Analgesic Pain Management

Pain control following a procedure is important. At Virginia Oral Surgery Specialists we care deeply about your experience with us long after you’ve left our office. As a part of your healing process, we offer Exparel, a non-opioid, slow-release pain reliever. Unlike other medications, Exparel is targeted directly at the site of the procedure, is administered in a single dose by our oral surgeon, and lasts for several days. It provides pain control for the first few days when it’s needed most and is clinically proven to reduce the need for opioids.

Advanced Bone Regenerative Materials: BMP

Bone morphogenic protein is an isolated protein that induces specific cells in our body to form new cartilage and bone. The BMP is absorbed by and bonds with a collagen sponge during surgery. The sponge is designed to resorb (disappear) over time as it dissolves. Bone morphogenic protein stimulates cells to produce new bone as the sponge disintegrates. Using regenerative materials offers more efficient healing and less discomfort for our patients during treatments.

We use the latest and most innovative technology to ensure that our patients receive the best possible dental care at VOSS. We guarantee to keep your body and smile healthy during any treatments you receive while under our supervision. We will work with you and your dentist to ensure that the restorations or oral surgery you require are done most effectively and efficiently.
